Yeah, it's been more than 1 year since the last chapter. And yet, it stops in a thrilling situation. There's a reason behind this.
I've been thinking the story is quite good myself and maybe it will be such a waste to write this only on a blog like this. So, I;m planning to turn this one into a novel. Thankfully, there's a lot of plot and behind story that haven't been revealed yet, so it will still save from plagiarism. I live in Indonesia so this novel will be released in Indonesia first. Well, it was fun! And really, I mean it.
Thank you for those who have read through to chapter 5. I hope it was entertaining to you. I hope this story can get released. Oh, and you can visit my blog. If there any progress on Afterlife, it will be informed there. See you!mr benzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12995638865772239904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5817830799239533937.post-86766987891437717702010-01-26T12:23:00.000-08:002010-01-26T12:23:18.433-08:00Chapter 5 - Under the MoonThere are a group of dogs standing before us, looking with hungry looks on their eyes. I can see there are 2 Golden Retrievers, 1 Rottweiler, 2 Chihuahuas, and 2 Bulldogs. There are 5 other dogs that I don’t know the name. I’m not an expert of dogs, so I can’t tell some of dogs there. Those dogs keep standing and don’t move. They growl and bark over and over at us.

“Damn, man!” Billy shouts. I can’t blame him, anyone will shout if they are in this situation.
“Shut up, Billy! We have to walk back slowly,” dad instructs us. We start to move back slowly and carefully, trying to not attract their attention.

Suddenly, we hear barks from behind us. I turn around and see 3 dogs there, a Rottweiler, Dalmatian, and Siberian husky. It seems that these dogs are the ones that howling back then. This situation is bad. We’re surrounded by these vicious canines. What should we do?

“Run back to the fire!” Dad shouts and commands us. We run to the fire as fast as we can. Those dogs are surprised by our sudden movement and start to follow us. We are no match for their four legs. The gap between us is getting shorter and shorter. If we can’t get to the fire quickly, this could end badly.

Somehow I trip over and fall to the ground near the fire. I fall on my face. It hurts, but it doesn’t matter. What matter are those behind me. I turn over to see the distance between those dogs and me. When I turn over, what I see is a small brown dog jumping and opens it’s jaw, ready to bite. I scream and cover my face with my arm.

BAM!! Suddenly that Chihuahua is gone from front of my face, leaving only a long whine and a splash on the lake soon after. “You’re ‘kay, kiddo?” Billy shows up in front of me. A trunk with fire on it is held by his hands. It’s Billy that knock that dog away. I’m amazed at his speed. He managed to run, take a trunk, and knock that dog even before I get near the fire.

Billy offers his hand to help me get up. I grab his hand and stand. “How come you get there so fast?” I ask him while stand up. “Don’t know and don’t care. That’s what we must care about,” Billy points at those dogs. There are 15 dogs growling hungrily at us. I move back a few steps and grab a trunk from our campfire, small enough to be held by one hand and big enough to send a Chihuahua flying across the lake.

Our location right now is bad and good in the same time. Right now we are near our campfire from before. The lake is on our back with the fire near it and the dogs in front of us. With the dogs blocking our escape route, that’s mean we’re cornered and that’s bad. But, with the lake and fire behind us that’s mean the dogs can’t attack us from our back, and that’s good.

“Dad, are you okay?” I ask dad condition, he looks pale the last time I see his face. “Dad?” I looking around and realize that dad’s not around.
“Billy, where’s my dad?!” I scream to Billy who’s been busy keeping those hungry canines from us by using fire on his trunk.
“Beats me, kiddo! Didn’t ye the one with him?” Billy replies.
“I was! He was running with me before….” I stop talking. I see something quite far behind those dogs. “Isn’t that dad?” I try to focusing my eye. I’m right! It is dad! He’s been kneeling down and holding his body from ground with his hand.
“Hey, old man! Are ye awright?” It seems Billy already spots dad.

“Dad! Are you okay?” I shout to him. I’m worried about him. While looking at dad, a dog comes running at me. I swing my trunk at that dog. I missed! I swing it too fast and that dog manage to jump back. At least that dog cease to attack for now.

Wait a minute. There are over a dozen dogs attacking us, but why there are no dogs attacking my dad? In fact, they don’t even bother that dad’s lying there. There’s something not right. “Why they don’t attack dad?” I ask Billy.
“Dunno, kid! Shouldn’t ye be grateful? That’s mean yer dad will not harmed,” Billy says that while hitting a bulldog right on it’s head. “Ow, Yeah!”
“Yeah,” I swing my trunk to a Chihuahua which running at me, “I suppose.” This time I don’t miss. I hit it right on it’s torso and send it flying over for a second. It doesn’t wake up at all. I look at the bulldog that was hit by Billy. It lying silently on the ground with it’s head in a weird position. That’s mean we have 2 less dogs to worry about. There are still 12 dogs left though.

After those 2 dogs dead, the others dogs looks like reluctant to attack. They are keeping their distance from us, they even afraid of the fire on our trunks now. It seems they know that we can kill them easily. Well, that’s at least if they come to us one by one. If they attack us all at once, we’ll be in a grim situation.

I look at dad. He’s not kneeling anymore, he’s lying on the ground! Damn! There’s something wrong with dad. I should take him here. I know right now dad hasn’t been attacked at all, but that doesn’t guarantee anything. These dogs can start attacking dad anytime. Maybe now, when they’re afraid to attack, is the right time.

“Billy, I’m going to take dad here,” I tell Billy about this.
“What?! Are you nuts, kid? There’s this hungry dogs want to eat ya, and now ye want to get trough them? Damn, you crazy kid!”
“But, that’s my dad lying there!”I shout to Billy. Without waiting for any replay, I run toward the pack of dogs while swinging my trunks with fire on it. Those dogs jump back avoiding the fire from my trunk and created a path for me to go through.

“Kiddo, wait!” I ignore Billy’s shout. I keep running to dad while looking back to ensure they don’t chase me. Those dogs just looking at me and barks. I think they will chase me for a moment. When I reach dad, I turn to face that pack again, ensuring they don’t chase me. I put my trunks in front of me. With fire on it, it will hold them back for a while.

“Dad, what’s wrong?” I turn dad over to see his face.
“I… don’t know…” He replies slowly and hardly. His breath isn’t stable. I touch his face to check the temperature. His body is so hot. With the help of moonlight I can see that his face is pale and his eyes are red.

Suddenly I hear a lot of growls and barks, with Billy’s voice in middle of it. I look at Billy and see that the worst scenario has occurred. All dogs attack Billy simultaneously. They aren’t afraid of fire anymore, but they still dodging the trunk. “Kiddo, need a hand here!” Billy shouts for my help.

“Wait here dad,” I take my trunk and start to run to Billy. We need to kill them quickly if we want to survive. But, I’m not sure we can do much with only melee weapon. Despite that, I still need to help Billy.

To my surprise, 4 dogs turn and running at me. They stop in front of me and bark ferociously. I swing my trunks to avert them, but it doesn’t do much. They just dodge it for a second and then back to their previous position. They keep their distance carefully. They don’t seem want to attack me, merely just holding me back so I can’t help Billy.

“Argh!” I hear Billy screaming. I look at him and see a Rottweiler bites his left arm. He punches it with his other hand to make that dog let go of his bite. Another one tries to bite him too, but he managed to dodge. I want to help, but each time I move forward, one of these dogs in front of me start to barks and tries to bite me. What I can do is only watch Billy and hopes he will make it.

“Argh, dammit!” another dog bites him. This time a Dalmatian attacks his right hand. Billy drops his trunk because of pain. That dog keeps his jaws closed, while another dog bites his left arm. “No! Billy!!” I can only scream from here, unable to give any help.

After that dogs lock both of Billy’s arm, the others start to attack Billy. Billy manages to kick some of them. But that doesn’t last long. A golden retriever starts biting his leg. The Rottweiler from before jumps on Billy and make him fall to the ground.

“Billy!!” I shout again, which is not helping at all.
“Argh! Run kiddo!” Billy shouts to me with his last of strength. After saying that, the rest of the dogs start biting Billy. I can hear his sound of pain from here mixed with growls and biting sounds. The dogs guarding me are not joining their friends. They just looking at me and growling.

After a while, I can’t hear Billy’s sound anymore. All I can hear are those from the dogs. Then, all of a sudden, 3 dogs that were attacking Billy now turn around and start heading toward me. Now I surrounded by 7 dogs. This could end as bad as Billy.

A golden retriever starts to attack me. I swing my trunk and manage to hit it. Suddenly I feel something big hitting my chest. I fall down to the ground with the trunk off my hand. The thing that hit me was a Rottweiler. He growls in front of my face with hungry looks at it’s face. The other dogs walking slowly, approaching me. This is really bad. I can feel the Rottweiler’s breath on my face. It opens it’s jaws, ready to bite. When it starts to extend it’s head toward me, I close my eyes. This is it.

BANG! I hear a loud bang. I open my eyes and see that the Rottweiler is dead on my chest. BANG! I hear another bang. It’s a gunshot! I look behind me and see a blonde girl with a shotgun aiming here. BANG! She shots again. Right now there are three dead dogs around me, Rottweiler, Golden Retriever, and a dog that I don’t know.

Those dogs turn their attention toward that girl. They growl and bark at her, leaving what they were doing. Suddenly, a dog is running at her. She points her rifle to that dog and aim. When that dog really near, it jumps, ready to strike. At that time, I can hear another gunshot. Then I see that dog thrown over by the force from the bullet.

The other dogs seem moving further from me while still growling and barking. That girl walking toward me while still has her gun at ready. The dogs watch her carefully and reluctant to attack. That girl looking at me and offering her hand, “Are you okay?”mr benzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12995638865772239904noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5817830799239533937.post-75034276104203084962010-01-18T04:01:00.000-08:002010-01-18T04:07:52.971-08:00Chapter 4 - ReunionI walk out from my house. I’m quite sure that my dad is still alive. The question is, where is he? If I were dad, where would I go? Is he going further out or back to the city? It will be hard to find him, especially when no one is around to be asked. Night is only a few hour away, I should think fast.

After thinking quite much about this, I decide to head back toward the city. I’m sure dad doing the same thing like me. I bet he’s trying to find me and head to the city. I shall try to search for place to rest that I miss when I came here before.

I walk around house by house, calling out to my dad. But, no matter how hard I called, no reply can be heard. Most of these houses owner are dead. Their deaths are horrible and hard to explain, just like those in the city. It’s really relieving though, when I saw some of those houses fully empty without any trace of death body. That’s mean there are more survivors around. But, how come I haven’t met them at all?

The sun almost sets now. The sky is red like burning. It’s really beautiful. I exhale some air from my lungs. I can’t find dad before nightfall. It’s best to stop searching for now.

I look up to the western sky, gazing at the setting sun. Suddenly, a smoke come out and goes up to the sky. A survivor?! It must be! There was no smoke before. The smoke comes from the big park to the west.

I run as fast as I can to try to reach the source of fire. Maybe it’s dad! But, then again, it’s maybe not. It could be anyone. Even though I know that fact, I can’t stop hoping it is dad. Whether it will be dad or not, at least I will meet someone alive and normal like me.

I running across the park, passing trees one by another. The sun is already set now. There’s only a little trace of light left behind. Then, I see a glimpse of light from somewhere in front of me. That must be the source of the smoke. I’m getting nearer and nearer to that light.

When I can see the light clearly, I see a campfire near the lake. Not far from there I can see a man sitting on a bench with his back to the fire gazing at the sky. I can’t see his face, his back is facing me.

I approach that man slowly. I want to make sure it really is dad. “Dad?” I said. That man hears me and sees me from his shoulder. “Is that you?” I asked. That man stands and turns to me while saying, “I haven’t married yet. How can I have a son?” He smiles.

Now that he’s facing to the fire I can see his face. He’s not dad, he’s just another survivor. My spirit fall down in an instance. I really thought he was dad. I really want him to be dad. But, he’s not. Though I should be happy seeing someone alive, but right now I’m still suffering from my own false prejudice.

“Billy’s the name. What’s yours, kiddo?” He asked me. His face is kinda scary, but somehow is also gentle.
“Jake,” I replied.
“Jake? Your name is Jake?” he looks surprised.
“Hey, old man!! Come ’ere, quick!” he calls out to the darkness.

I hear footsteps of someone running. I look to the source and see a man running here. I can’t see his face yet though. He stops right before Billy and catching his breath. “What’s wrong?” he asked Billy.

I stand still in surprise. “Dad?!” I call to that man. He turns and looks at me. “Jake?!” He looks as surprised as I am. I can’t believe I can meet dad just when I give up hope.

He run to me and hug me. “I’m glad you’re okay,” he cries on my shoulder.
“Me too dad,” I replied.
“I’m sorry, but your mother…” he stops.
“I’ve been to our house. I’ve seen her, dad,” suddenly tears flowing from my eyes. It’s a mix of glad from meeting my dad, and grief for my mother.

We then sit around the fire, trying to warm our body. Dad, Billy, and I talk a lot about this unexplainable event. They’ve seen more things than me. According to dad and Billy, animals somehow affected by this too, whatever this is. But, it seems that the animals that dead are fewer than those that alive, unlike human. Dad also adds that they become wilder and fiercer. He shows me his wounded arm. He said he was attacked by Brunette’s Retriever. She was our neighbor. I remember that dog used to be tame and even afraid of people. I also tell them my story at the restaurant. They haven’t seen that kind of event before.

“I don’t understand any of this. What’s going on?”Dad seems confused, and so me and Billy.
“You know what? I said we should find others first,” Billy said.
“Other? You mean there really are other survivors?” I asked curiously.
“Hell yeah! What? Do you think we’re the only one alive? Damn, I can’t imagine living in this world with only men around. I’m relieved when I saw a cute chick still walkin’ and breathin’,”
“So, where is she now? And also the other?”
“Away. They were headin’ to next city, hoping it has different fate from this one,” Billy replies. “There were 9 of us, 4 of them came from the city including that chick. Fyu~ She’s so pretty if you ask me. Her long blonde hair. Her hips. Hell, I haven’t seen a girl that darn pretty for a long time. The last time I...”
“Err, can we continue on the other survivor?” I stop him and save myself from what looks like an allnight story.

“Oh. Okay. Where was I? Oh yeah. So your daddy-o and I decided to stay here, looking for you. Three of them went back to the city, seems like lookin’ for their relative, and the rest went to other city.”
“Hmm…” I look up to the starry sky. The moon is up in the sky and shine beautifully. I think going to other town is not a bad idea. Besides, what other option do we have left? Maybe I should ask to Dad and Billy.
“And you know Jake,” Billy starts talking, “that blonde chick was pretty. Hell, if I were younger I would hittin’ that hot chick. Heh, I think you should try to hit her if ya have a chance to meet. I think that chick is suited fer ya. Isn’t that right old man?” Billy asks my dad about this unrelated topic. I shook my head. Maybe it’s not the time to ask. It’s getting late now, we should talked about our destination after we get enough sleep.

“Hey, old man! Are ya awright?” Billy talks to dad. Dad hasn’t answered the previous question from Billy. I look at dad. He doesn’t look well.
“Huh? Oh, yeah. I’m okay,” dad replies. “It’s kinda hot don’t you think?”
“Not really,” I reply. “It’s quite cold here. Are you okay dad? You’re all sweaty.”
“Yeah. Don’t worry,” dad’s answer doesn’t convince me. I know there’s definitely something wrong with dad.
“It’s getting late. Maybe we should get inside one of the house to rest. It’s doesn’t save outside,” dad says.

Me and Billy nod. If animals are become wild and aggressive, it’s better for us to have a shelter. We decided to leave the fire be. Dad leaves a note at the bench in case there are survivors notice the fire.

Suddenly we hear a long howl across the night sky. “We better be hurry,” dad says.
“Yeah. I don’t want to ends up as some canine’s dinner,” Billy replies.

We walk faster than before as we hear another howl behind us. Suddenly we hear running footsteps from behind. It’s not human footsteps. “RUN!” dad orders us. We run as fast as we can. Billy run in front of us, while dad is beside me.

Suddenly dad’s trip over and fall down. “Billy, wait!” I stop and shout at Billy. I don’t think he hears me. I come back to help dad get up. “Come on, dad!” “Sorry, Jake,”

“Speaks of the devil!” I hear Billy’s sound.
Me and dad stand and look at Billy who has stopped running. In front of him we can see at least a dozen of dogs, starring at us just like looking at their preys.
“Me and my bad mouth.”mr benzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12995638865772239904noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5817830799239533937.post-19177477823302146082010-01-04T10:51:00.000-08:002010-01-04T10:55:55.533-08:00Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!So I and all of the production crews of AFTERLIFE-The Series (which currently only me) wants to say...
I just killed that man, how can I sleep? I still can feel his tremble. The image of pain on his eye engraved on my memory. I know it had to be done. But, still. I’ve killed a man. Even though I tried my best to let it go, but my consciousness won’t let it go. My hands are trembling. I never thought taking someone lives will be this hard.

The other things that keep me awakes are questions. What really happen around here? First, those mysterious death. Now, I met a guy who’s still alive even though his body was split to half. I bet his pain was so dreadful. What if my parents are on the same condition? Will I have the heart to kill them? Should I continue this journey or runaway from unknown truth?

I look at the guy’s body. His death was painful, but it would be worse if I let him live like that. I have my resolve now. I need to see the truth. I shall be prepared for anything. Whatever happens to my parents, I have to accept it. I don’t know whether I could kill them or not when the situation force me to, but for now I have to be strong and walk forward.

The sun has risen now. I didn’t sleep at all. I walk to the window and look trough. Nothing change from yesterday. The scenery of ultimate chaos is still there. I’m still not used to it. This place used to be crowded, but now I hear nothing.

I get out from that place and start to walk to my destinations, my friends’ house and my parent’s. I try to ignore these dead bodies, which is really hard. The stench is really foul. The buzzing of flies is heard whenever I walk past a body. It seems those flies doesn’t affected by whatever happens.

I walk quite far. I reach the outskirt of the city when the sun almost at the top. The road here is the same with those inside the city. Bodies and cars scattered all around. Bodies are so many, yet no survivor can be seen. I keep on walking until I see a familiar house. That’s Steve’s house. And the car wreck in front of it is Mark’s. That’s mean he’s here too.

With holding back the feeling of worst possibility, I run as fast as I can toward Steve’s house. I open the door which is not locked and call out their names. “Steve!!! Mark!!!” I open the first door on my right. The room is in a mess. I look into all rooms and find no one. I go to the second floor to Steve’s room. The room is empty, just like other rooms.

I walk across the room toward the window. I can see the backyard from this side. I remember the time when we were kids. That backyard was our playground. Wait! There’s something there. I can see the land looks like just been dug. I run to the backyard, almost fall on the stair.

When I reach the backyard, I can see some dirt was dug earlier. Is it them? I hold my breath a while. I have to make sure myself. I look around and find a shovel. I use it to dig the mounds of dirt. I dig it carefully, afraid to damage whatever down there.

Then I feel I hit something with my shovel. I have to be careful next time. I drop the shovel and try to dig it with my hand to avoid any unwanted damage. I’m surprised with my discovery. I manage to reveal a palm. Human’s palm. Fear comes to my mind. Whose hand is this? I try to dig more and more.

When I see the face, relieve and sadness mixed within my heart. It’s neither Mark nor Steve, which is a relieve. They are Steve’s parents. I feel bad for them. But, from this I can deduct one thing. Mark and Steve are alive. At least until they leave this house. The one burying this must be them. And without their body around, it’s safe to say they are survivors.

Well, one question is out. Where they are gone is my second priority right now. There is one more urgent thing than that, which is my parents’ condition. I hope their fate differ than that of Steve’s.

I stand up and bury Steve’s parents back. After finishing that I decide to leave the house. I keep on walking toward my parent’s house while searching for sign of any survivor. I have big hope right now after learning on Steve and Mark’s condition. I really hoping my parents share the same fate with them.

After a while, finally I reach my destination. It’s doesn’t change since the last time I were here. I step inside to the building. My heart is beating fast. I try the first room, which contain no live sign. I try almost every room and found nothing.

Then, I step into the kitchen and found something there. The stove is in a really bad condition. It looks like it was explode. The kitchen is really messy. Every electronic equipment is broken. Some of them were exploded. But, there’s one thing that catch my attention. There’s a black pattern far from any electronics. I’m positive there was something burnt here. But what?

Then I notice one thing when I cross the kitchen. I see a mound on the backyard from the window with flowers on it. I run to there as fast as I can. My heart is beating fast. Fear is clouding my heart. These mound wouldn’t be here for no reason.

I dig it with my hand only. I don’t want to damage whoever down there. After a while I feel that I touch something. When I see a hand there, tears start flowing from my eyes. I keep digging and digging. I manage to uncover the upper part of this body. My tear is flowing more and more. The body is hard to recognize. It was burned, badly. But I know her, which makes my heart hurts. It’s my mom. I fall on my knee. Crying and screaming. I hug her blackened, lifeless body. It’s really hard to accept this.

When I regain control of my mind, I release her body. Tears still flowing, but not as much as before. I stand and start to bury her body again. While burying her, I realize one thing. That means dad is still alive! When I finish, I weep my eyes and start praying for my mom.

I get inside the house. I’m quite lucky to find some clean water in a jug on the table. I sit down and drink some water, relaxing my mind and heart. I’m sure dad’s still alive. He must be the one who bury mom. I have to find him. There’s still much time until sunset. I have to go now.mr benzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12995638865772239904noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5817830799239533937.post-43276189788030210572009-11-05T05:40:00.000-08:002009-11-05T05:57:17.487-08:00Chapter 2 -The Living DeadJake woke up only to find out that everything around him was chaotic. Electronics equipments were destroyed. Jake found out that people were dead in some mysterious way and now he was alone. Jake decided to find out his friends and families condition. With that in mind, Jake walked away to the setting sun . . .

It’s been a while since I woke up and found things were not right. The sun has set and stars have come out. The moon is full high in the sky. I can see the way clearly, thanks to the moon. Every single gadget is broken, my watch is not an exception.

Without nothing to count the time, I don’t know how long I’ve walk. My parents’ house and also my friends’ are in the outskirt. It’s kinda far from my apartment. I regret my decision to move from my parent’s house. Well, I thought that they deserve to get their happy life just the two of them, free of worries for their child. And I also want to get independent. But, with this distance... Well, it’s okay back then before today. I could get there by bus. But now, with nothing to ride, it’s just really troublesome. Hhh… I really hope they are fine, survivors just like me.

The scenery around me hasn’t change since I got out from my apartment. Broken cars are all over the road, with some have been burnt. Seems like everything that has electricity on it has been overloaded or something. I’ve been walking for hour, and I still can’t get used to those dead people lying disturbingly all over the place. Those and added with this full moon, things become eerie. I get a goose bump from this situation.

I don’t know how long I’ve walk. One thing that I know is that I walk in the right direction. By the look of my surrounding, I can say that my destination is not far from my current position. A glimpse of light of hope comes out from my heart. My legs are killing me right now. I think I should take a rest.

I’m looking at my surrounding. There are some buildings that I can use as a resting place for tonight. I move my leg to the restaurant at my right side. It was a well-known restaurant which now ruin is the best word to describe it. I walk inside and find other dead bodies. It’s not that I don’t expect this. I exhale some air and try to find some free-of-bodies room as my base. Luckily, the employee room is that kind of place, so I decide it as my base.

I go to the kitchen to find something to fill my stomach. Walking that far makes me hungry. Plus, the last time I’ve eat was this morning. I walk to the kitchen looking for food. I find the kitchen is in a very bad condition. Some parts of the roof are fall down. The fallen walls are covering the hole on the ceiling. There are still some fires around the place. Seems like the ovens and stoves were exploded by the look of it. Thanks God I don’t have any oven nor stove that use electricity. If I have those, I might be not walking in here right now.

I wander around the kitchen surrounded by ruins and dead bodies. I finally find the freezer. It seems was explode too, but that makes things easier. The freezer door is open because of it. I step inside to find something to eat. Most of them are destroyed and not edible. After looking so hard, I find some big meat under fallen shelves. It’s really big and I’m sure I can’t finish it myself.

I take that big chunk of meat back to the kitchen. I use a big butcher knife there to cut the meat down to smaller slices. Now it’s fit my portion. Next thing is to cook it. I use some fire around here to cook it. I don’t know whether I cook it well or not. That’s the least thing I worry about. What I do care is filling my stomach. I’m really damn hungry. I eat that meat viciously as if I haven’t eaten for weeks.

After I’ve done eating, I decided to rest. I go back to the employee room. Luckily they have a very nice and comfortable sofa here. It’s not as comfy as my bed, but it’s much better than sleeping in the floor. I lie down on the sofa and stretch out my legs. It feels very good. This comfort really pleases me. I try to close my eyes and start to sleep in an instant.

I somehow awaken from my dreamless sleep. My head feels dizzy from that sudden awakening. I hear some really noisy rumbling sound from somewhere. I think that’s the reason I’m awake. I get off from the sofa and realize that my surrounding is darker than before I sleep. I peek from the window and see the moon hidden by the clouds. It’s kinda harder to see now.

I walk carefully to the front. The light is better here, though it doesn’t help much. Now I hear a noise. It’s like some chair or something has been knock down. That sound come from the upstairs. Now I get a goose bump. But, when I think again, it could be another survivor!

I try to remember the location of the stairs and turn out I don’t know where it is. I remember that the employee room has a map for emergency exit there. I head back and find the map. After learning the stair’s location, I hurriedly head there. Unfortunately, my path’s blocked by collapsed roof. I can’t go through. It seems like this is the source of rumbling sound from before.

I hear another sound now. This time it’s a sound of something being dragged. The sound’s heading towards kitchen. I remember now that there is a hole in the ceiling in the kitchen. Perhaps I can see something from that hole.

I quickly get to the kitchen and look up to the hole. The hole is quite small. Most of it is covered by debris of fallen roofs and walls. I try to climb over the pile of debris. I can hear the dragging sound clearly now that I almost reach the hole. When I want to peek inside the hole, suddenly there’s something fall from the hole, hit me and roll down to the kitchen floor. It’s really surprise me. It’s a dead body with a sad condition. It has lost its lower parts. I ignore it, continue climbing and peek through the hole and see nothing out of ordinary.

I get down again. What was that sound? I look at the dead body that was fall from the hole. His insides are expose and hanging from his open wound. Fresh blood’s flowing out through his wound. I didn’t see it before because it was too dark. Poor guy. Even though he already dead, his condition still makes me feel pity for him.

I turn my body and heading towards the door. I shall get back to sleep. Suddenly, something grabs my ankle. I turn in fear and look down. It’s that dead body from before. It grabs my legs and now looks to my face. It should be dead already. How can it still move? There no such thing as ghost nor zombie, right?

I waggle my leg to let it free. I manage to get free, but I fall down as a result. The dead body’s crawling towards me while whispering something. I want to run away but fear freezes my body. I can’t move my body at all. It’s getting closer and closer.

As it getting closer, I can hear the word he’s whispering. “…elp…” I think he’s trying to say help. I collect all of my courage and try to hear him. “Please help me….” That’s the words he’s been whispering. The moonlight comes in through the window. Seems like the cloud has gone now. With the help of moonlight, I can see his face. His face looks so pale and has this begging expression on it. Tears are flowing from his red eyes.

My fear slowly leaves me. I don’t see him as a menacing and scary thing anymore.
I try to ask him what happens with him. From what he’s telling, it seems that he don’t know anything. He’s telling me that when he woke he was still fine. Then he smelled something being cooked. When he wanted to approach me, he realized that his way is blocked by some debris. He then tried to clearing his path. Somehow I didn’t hear this back then. Maybe I was too tired. When he finished and managed to get through, he ran towards the stair.

“Then, when I reached the stair, suddenly the roof fell above me. I didn’t have any time to react. I feel that something big fell on me. I feel a great pain and was thinking that I was done for. But, then I realized that I was still alive. I opened my eyes and saw that my lower part was gone and I could see my inside. The pain is unbearable. I tried to find you. I want you to let me free from this pain. I want you to kill me…”

He looks down. His voice was trembling. I can feel his pain, crawling around while dragging your intestine like that. I want to help him. I think it’s better for him to die than living like this. But then again, he’s in that condition but still alive. How can I kill him? If I do something wrong, his pain might worsen.

I stand up and tell him to not worry. I walk around kitchen. I’m thinking hard to how to kill him. He’s literally immortal by now. How can I kill an immortal? That question running through my mind. Well, one thing do cross in my mind. But, I’m not really sure if it will works, not to mention that I have enough guts to do it.

I exhale and take the butcher knife from the table. I hold it tightly in my hand. I can’t do this. This is the same as killing a person. But, that man looks up and stares directly into my eyes. His gaze shows the pain and misery he’s been trough.

“I’m sorry,” I say it to him to which he reply, “No, I’m the one who should sorry.” He smile and close his eyes. “Now, do it!” His voice still trembles from pain, but I can feel his determination.

I gather all my courage toward my right hand. I grab the knife tighter and lift it high above my head. I close my eyes for a while. I exhale again. I open my eyes and realize that this have to be done. For the sake of that man. This is hard, but I believe this is the best for him. I swing the butcher knife hardly downwards.

“CRASH!!” The knife slice trough his hard skull. Fresh blood flow out from the crack on his head. His body trembles hard. I really hope this will works. It seems that he’s feeling extreme pain right now. His teeth close tightly to hold his pain.

Then out of sudden, his body stops trembling. No movement can be seen or felt. Blood still flow from his head. I think he can rest in peace now. I let go the butcher knife and fall on my knee.

I kill a man. My hands tremble. I look at my palm. It’s covered with blood. What have I done? I’ve killed a man. I know it’s a must, but still… My heart doesn’t allow it. I feel very bad and weird. There’s something hard giving pressure on my stomach. I can’t stand it. “HUAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!” I let out all of my pressure on that scream. It’s echoing on the darkness of the night.

Jake has experience an awful night on his way to his parent’s and friends’ places. Now his mind is filled with guilt and pressure. The next morning, he still has to go toward his destination, with a little glimpse of hope.mr benzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12995638865772239904noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5817830799239533937.post-19739535876590711942009-10-30T07:26:00.000-07:002009-10-30T09:15:13.198-07:00Chapter 1 - Ressurection
Is this true? That's the first thing that crossed my mind when I open my eyes. I woke at my apartment and realize that something wasn't right. The only thing I could remember was a great pain in my head and I could hear a lot of explosion. Then, everything went black. The next thing that I know is what I see right now.

I'm standing here before the window and really cannot believe what I see now. Smoke coming out from many building around the city. And all the buildings that I can see are decorated by holes. It's look like those buildings being bombed from the inside. My hands shiver from the scene. This scene is real. It just like scene from some war or apocalypse movie.

The next thing I notice is there are no sound at all. No horn, no engine's sound, not even scream and panicking sound you expect from this situation. Nothing at all. I can even hear my own breath and heart beats. This silence create an eerie feeling. I'm hoping there will be some sound, but it's useless. I wonder where are those people?

Then I realize that those people that I'm looking for are there in the streets. All of them laying down. Something's not right. I decide to go out and try to find information. I move from the window and heading to exit door. While walking there, I realize that my TV, radio, and seems like all my electronics are broken. I quickly reach my pocket to check my cell. Unfortunately, my cellphone also broken. What really happen around here? I hope someone can explain to me.

I walking between households that falling down and scattered all over my apartment. After I leave my room, I decide to check at my neighbor. I approach the room in the right of my room and knock the door. I'm expecting some reply even though my common sense telling me that no one will answer. I try to turn the knob and find out that it isn't locked.

I open the door and get inside. I try to find the old man who live here. This apartment is in a mess just like mine. Households and books scattered all over and electronics are broken. Frames with pictures of the old man and his late wife are scattered around. I go to the bedroom and find no one there. When I want to turn I notice that the little goldfish in the bowl on the table besides the bed is dead. Are all the people also....? No, I can't jump to prejudice. I shall look around more. I leave the bedroom and heading to bathroom.

I open the door and look inside the bathroom. And, I think I've found the old man. I don't know what happening here. The old man lying on the floor covered in his own blood. He has countless hack wounds on his body from which the blood flowing out. I'm petrified in my place. This scene is far too horrible for me. My heart beating fast. I can't stand this anymore.

I turn around and run heading to the exit. Then I head to the stair for my room is on the third floor. When I reach the stair, I see a body in front of the stair. The scene makes me sick. The head of that women is seems like exploded and her brain is scattered around.

I feel sick now. I jump over that body and rushing down the stair. While running down, I scream out for help. Right now, I really wish someone will come and find me. I don't care who. What I need is only the appearance of others living person.

When I reach the first floor, I see another dead body of a man near the entrance door. This one has similar wounds to the old man. I don't like this. I don't like this at all. At first, I really want to get out to find information. But, after seeing all those dead body, I'm afraid to exit the building. I've seen all those people were lying down on street from my room's window. Somehow I can tell what I will see when I'm out at the street.

Despite this confusion, I decide that I have to go out. If I stay here, nothing will change. I will know nothing and scared in every second of my life. Even though I don't know what awaits me out there, I still have to go out. I need to know the reason of all this.

After collecting all my courage, I step forward to the entrance door of this apartment. I grab the knob tightly and pause for a second. I still have this fear of what will I face. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Once. Twice. There. I'm calmer now. I turn the knob and open the door.

When I see the street for the first time, I realize that my fear become true. All those people I saw from the window are dead. This is just like a nightmare. As far as I can see, the street is covered by dead bodies. Not even one alive.

There are some bodies with wounds and also some with exploded head, just like what I saw in the apartment. But, there are also bodies with other conditions. There are some that have been burned somehow. Also, there are other that looks like drowning somehow. I can see water flows out from their mouth. There are still other conditions that are better left unseen.

But, I can't ignore the strangest condition there. There are some bodies that have bones coming out from their bodies. It's not some ordinary bones. These bones are like growing out of control from their bodies. Looks like they are dead because of the pain from growing bones penetrate their flesh.

What is going on here? I really don't understand the situation here. What I know is that I'm alive and everyone else is dead, in strange way. Wait! I'm still alive. There's a possibility that there are also some other that survived from whatever it is. Yes, I'm pretty sure that I'm not a sole survivor. There should be someone else who also survived.

It settles then! I, Jake, as a survivor will go to find the others survivor. This will be my current mission. I have to find others who are survived. My first destination will be my friends place and also my parent's. I shall not lose my hope. I really hope I still can see them alive. With that thing in mind, I walk to my destination crossing this sea of dead bodies . . . .
